Itinerary

Please note, this is a suggested itinerary only and subject to change at the discretion of your guides due to weather and other influencing factors.

In the event of rare adverse weather, riders will be taken out for some local sightseeing by the knowledgeable guides around the beautiful region.

  • Day 1: Arrival & Introductory Ride

    30mins in the saddle

Welcome to the Red Centre globetrotters! You’ll be picked up from Alice Springs Airport at 3pm this afternoon and escorted out to the ride host’s property, your home away from home for the next few days.

This afternoon, you’ll meet the horse who’ll carry you through the week and get acquainted on a short ride in the host’s arena. Then it’s time to settle into your private tent, pour a cold drink and let the outback evening unfold around you. Over a hearty meal, you’ll meet the crew and hear what the days ahead have in store.

  • Day 2: Station Paddocks, South Side

5 to 6 hours in the saddle

After breakfast, the horses are trucked out to the station, and your first ride begins at the cattle yards, a fitting start on a working cattle property. From here, you’ll head north-east across open red country before weaving through a mulga forest that eventually opens onto big views of the Pilgra escarpment. As the afternoon rolls on, you’ll wind your way back along the Ranges Track to the yards, where savoury platters and a cold drink are waiting to toast your first day in the saddle.

  • Day 3: Mount Undoolya

6 to 7 hours in the saddle

This is a day you won’t forget! A short truck ride takes you further afield to Jimpys Bore, where you’ll set off through a hidden meadow that feels like a well-kept secret. You’ll pass through Red Range Gap for morning tea, and while you’re picking your jaw up off the ground, you’ll follow the base of the East MacDonnell Range west to Paech Dam. Here, you’ll stop for lunch while the horses enjoy a long drink and a well-earned siesta. Refreshed, you’ll continue west across the flood-out to Cross Roads Gate, before finishing along the Cliff Track loop to Jesse Yards.

  • Day 4: Williams Loop

5 to 6 hours in the saddle

Today brings a whole new landscape on the south side of the station. You’ll follow Williams Creek through ancient creek country to Julie Dam for morning tea, then carry on to a remote stock bore. From there, you’ll loop back through weathered ranges and stony dry creek beds to where you started. Along the way, the dams, bores and troughs tell the story of life on a cattle station, and you’ll start to see the country the way the stockmen do.

  • Day 5: Boot Hill Loop

    5 hours in the saddle

A final day of incredible highlights awaits. You’ll follow Jesse Creek to Jesse Dam for morning tea, then ride up to Lovers Lookout. From there, you’ll wind through rugged trails to Legend’s Lookout (yes, you will meet the legend, Legend!) and take in sweeping views across Undoolya Station. This one is for the memory bank! You’ll stop for lunch at Boot Hill, then return along the Eastern Track to where the ride began.

As the afternoon light softens, you’ll freshen up and hop in the hosts’ minibus back to Lovers Lookout, where the station owners are waiting to host your farewell starlit dinner. Gather around the table as the sun sets over the ranges and the stars come out, share stories and a few laughs, and look out over the country you’ve spent the week exploring on horseback. It’s a night you won’t forget.

  • Day 6: Departure

    Non-riding day

After a final breakfast, it’s time to say your goodbyes. You’ll be transferred to Alice Springs airport or a town drop-off, leaving with memories of red country, big skies and a week seen from the saddle. Until next time!

Transfer information

Transfers throughout the ride are included in the price.

On day 1, you will be picked up from Alice Springs Airport at 3pm and driven out to your host’s property. Please ensure your flight arrives with enough time to make the 3pm pick up time.

On day 6, you will return to Alice Springs at around 9.30am – you will be dropped off at either your hotel accommodation or the airport. Please ensure your flight departs no earlier than 10.30am.

Accommodation

You’ll enjoy your own private safari-style tent set up with a comfortable bed, fresh linen, split air-conditioning and heater system, lamp, charging station and a deck.

Food

Mornings on The Red Centre Ride start with a hot cooked breakfast of bacon and eggs, toast and muffins, or you can opt for something lighter, such as fresh fruit or granola with toppings. For lunch, you’ll head out with a packed spread of salads, cold meats and wraps, plus fruit and snacks to keep you going in the saddle. Come evening, you’ll sit down to hearty home-made dinners, from steaks, lasagna and casseroles to gourmet Australian BBQs, all served with freshly baked bread.

A small selection of red and white wines and some beer will be available with nightly meals, all other alcoholic drinks will be BYO.
