Guide’s Name:
Laura Becker
How long have you been running horse riding holidays?
15 years myself, but it has been operating for over 20 years!
What was the background, history, or reason for starting?
I come from France, where I grew up riding horses in the beautiful Loire Valley. When I was 25, I left for Australia for a “working holiday”. I started working for Ray, who owned and started the business, and… I never left! I got a job as a trail guide, a husband, and also two amazing children later on! I now manage the business and still do a lot of guiding because I love it!
How many guest horses do you have?
We have a herd of 30+ horses, currently about 20 horses in full work for our guests.
Describe your herd of horses in four words:
Reliable, adaptable, affectionate, and generous!
What is the philosophy or ethos behind your horse riding safaris?
Fostering a sense of community among riders of all abilities and sharing stories, culture, and showcasing Tasmania’s beautiful landscapes and wildlife.
What do you love most about your job?
Being out in nature with horses most days—so grateful to be sharing this with our riders!
What is the most challenging part of your job?
My non-riding days are the toughest, doing all the jobs “behind the scenes”! Looking after 30+ horses is no joke!
Why should globetrotters sign up for this ride?
You get to discover and experience completely different Tasmanian landscapes each day, from mountains to the beach! Each day is different and unique! Oh, and the food or the wonderful accommodations we offer!
A tip every globetrotter must know before signing up for this ride:
Be prepared to ride in all weather conditions! Tasmania’s weather is always a surprise. I love this beautiful island in all four seasons—even in one day!
Finish this sentence – Don’t leave home without…
A positive attitude, as well as your thermals and sunscreen (yes, both!).
What has been the most memorable or significant moment of your guiding career?
They are a collection of moments, too many to count! I love watching people have their love for horses rekindled after a long break.
Anything else you’d like GT’ers to know about you or the ride?
We give riders the chance to discover Tasmania riding on beautiful private properties and National Parks. After riding, you get to unwind and recharge at two beautiful accommodations—one full of history and culture, and one retreat where comfort meets adventure!! (Accommodations vary depending on ride duration)
