Meet a Globetrotter: Oi Yee Adams

She might be a late starter when it comes to the horse riding world, but Oi Yee has well and truly made up for it! Since the very first time her backside touched a saddle Oi Yee has refused to get off, and joined us on her debut Globetrotting adventure on the Howqua River Ride. She has now become a Globetrotting addict (yay!) and next up has her sights set on the oh so popular Kimberley Ride. Welcome to the world of Globetrotting, Oi Yee!

What is your day job?
I’m an Instructional Designer. I design and create online learning courses for a software company.

How have horses influenced or changed your life?
I’m a late starter when it comes to all things equine. I clambered onto a horse for the first time for a trail ride at the age of 28 and have since refused to get off! I have developed a deep sense of respect and reverence for these intelligent, sensitive and ‘I’ve got a mind of my own’ animals.

What does riding or being with horses mean to you?
When you’re standing next to, riding or working with such a powerful animal, it’s a wonderful partnership. It’s very humbling. To earn the trust of a horse, it’s forced me to be honest with who I am and uncomplicated with my intentions. They are such great judges of character!

What have horses taught you the most?
That with patience, tolerance and a sense of humour, a lot can be achieved. Every horse I’ve had the pleasure to ride has been super patient with me and tolerant of my bumblings. I’m a horse-taught rider so I’m grateful for their lessons.

What was your first Globetrotting ride?
The Howqua River Ride – a great starting point for my horse riding adventures.

What made you take the plunge and sign up for a Globetrotting holiday?
I’m 35, so it’s now before I can’t!

Was this ride celebrating or marking a significant moment/milestone/achievement in your life? And if so, would you mind sharing?
After 6.5 years of weekend trail riding every few months, I needed a challenge. What better way than seeing if I can remain in a saddle for multiple days straight?  So when I turned 35 I started looking for such an adventure and I stumbled across Globetrotting.  With so many choices on Kate’s website, my bucket list has grown exponentially!

Which Globetrotting rides have you since completed/planned/dreamed about?
My next milestone I want to achieve is going on The Kimberley Ride. I’ve explored the Kimberley by car and I now really want to do it on horseback. It’s going to be so much better!

What is your most memorable Globetrotting moment?
The quiet time while riding. It’s just you, your horse and the beautiful scenery that envelops you. Oh, and not falling off!

Why choose this type of travel, as in exploring new places from the back of a horse?
Yeah, there’s travelling via car, train and plane – boring! Travelling via your trusty steed takes it to the next level for nature lovers. It provides opportunities to get down and dirty with your horse, up close and personal with the wilderness and a chance to step back in time.

A tip that every globetrotter should know before going on a ride…
You’re on holiday – sit back and enjoy it! Enjoy the rocking movement of your horse, the serene peace of the location, the humour of like-minded human company and the generosity of your hosts.
